Rattlers win fifth consecutive West division title

LOS ANGELES -- The Arizona Rattlers won their seventh straight game and earned another West division title with a 49-43 victory over the Los Angeles KISS on Saturday night at the Honda Center.

The Rattlers (11-2) remain undefeated against the KISS (2-11).

The defending Arena League champ Rattlers won their first consecutive West title and are guaranteed a first or second seed in the playoffs. They will host at least one playoff game.

Head coach and general manager Kevin Guy earned his 100th victory as a coach. Guy earned 99 of those victories with the Rattlers.

Quarterback Nick Davila had another impressive showing, completing 22 of 33 passes for 282 yards and five touchdowns.

Wide receiver AJ Cruz, who is coming off an MVP week, also had a great night. He caught one touchdown pass, and returned a kick for another -- his sixth kick return touchdown this season.

Defensive back Jeremy Kellem now has intercepted a pass in six straight games. Kellem, who picked off KISS quarterback Danny Southwick in the second quarter, has 12 interceptions on the season. 

Southwick was only sacked once but was never comfortable in the pocket, and was knocked out of the game late in the third by a hit from defensive tackle Anttaj Hawthorne. Southwick was 17 of 33, with five touchdowns and one interception.

The Rattlers' next game will be July 11when they face the visiting Las Vegas Outlaws for the third time this season. The game will be televised on FOX Sports Arizona Plus.
