Rangers vs. Blue Jays breakdown
What went right?
• Texas right-hander Yovani Gallardo fell two outs shy of a complete-game shutout in Saturday's 4-0 victory and will just have to settle for being the hottest pitcher in the American League. It capped a month in which Gallardo went 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA, which is the second-lowest ERA for a month in club history and he'll start July with a 23 1/3 innings scoreless stretch.
• Prince Fielder is like the Energizer bunny on offense, he just keeps going and going and going. Fielder increased his Major League lead in multi-hit games with three in the series and now has 35 on the season.
• The post Round Rock Rougded Odor continues to hit. He went 3 for 5 Sunday and was 6 for 11 in the series in Toronto. He's now 15 for 38 since coming back from his demotion.
What went wrong?
• Nick Martinez was awful in Friday's 12-2 loss, getting tagged for eight earned runs in six innings and seeing his ERA jump from 2.77 to 3.39. Martinez is just 1-3 in June and hasn't won since June 9.
• Leonys Martin may have finally played himself out of a starting role with the Rangers. He struck out three times Sunday and was 1 for 10 in the series to drop his average to .222. With Delino DeShields and Josh Hamilton getting healthy and ready to join the club in Baltimore, that could mean bench time for Martin.
• Ross Detwiler is also playing himself out of a role in the bullpen. Detwiler pitched in Friday's disaster and did nothing to help the cause. How many teams have a reliever with an ERA over 7.00 helping them in July? He's now allowed four runs in the last 2 2/3 innings of work.
What's next?
The Rangers must now try to get things going against a Baltimore team they've struggled against when they start a four-game series at Camden Yards Monday. The Rangers were 1-6 against Baltimore last season and will look for some road momentum in their final road series before the All-Star break.
