Rangers tab Beasley as third-base coach
The Texas Rangers wanted a third-base coach who has a history with new manager Jeff Banister and they found it in Tony Beasley.
The club hired Beasley Tuesday as the new third-base coach to complete the team's staff for the 2015 season.
Beasley, 47, spent the last four years working with the Washington Nationals but before that he was with Pittsburgh for four seasons where he worked with Banister. Beasley spent three seasons in Pittsburgh as the team's third-base coach and baserunning instructor. He was also the Nationals third-base coach in 2006.
Beasley also has plenty of managerial experience. He was the Double A manager of the year in 2005 and has taken his teams to the postseason in six of his eight years as a manager.
Beasley is one of four new members of the Texas major league coaching staff, joining Banister, Hector Ortiz (first-base coach) and Jayce Tingler (field coordinator).
Beasley replaces Gary Pettis, who left the Rangers to take over as third-base coach for Houston.
