Rangers getting creative with eating options again
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Bacon on a stick is so 2014 by Globe Life in Arlington standards.
When the Texas Rangers open the 2015 season there will still be bacon-on-a-stick at the ballpark, but also plenty of other bacon-infused goodness.
Candied bacon? Of course. Bacon cotton candy? Why not. Bacon beer? Sure.
The new bacon-inspired menu items are just a few of the new treats fans will get to sample this season, with others including chicken-fried corn on the cob and the ballpark's own twist on smores, the S'mOreos.
Delaware North, which handles the concessions at Globe Life, opted to rebrand one of its concession stands on the main concourse as a tribute to the State Fair of Texas. That stand will have the S'mOreos, the chicken-fried corn on the cob, fried Twinkies, chicken-fried bacon-on-a-stick, fried pickles as well as funnel-cake fries.
"We've been toying with some of these fun and exciting items in the past," said Shawn Mattox, the general manager of Metroplex Sportsservice said of the new State Fare stand. "Often times if you do too many things in a concession they don't get the traction you think they would. We wanted to have a stand that highlighted these items."
Last year bacon was the new star at the park and this year the bacon cotton candy and bacon beer will be available. Exactly what is bacon beer? There's no bacon in the brew that comes out of Oregon made by Rogue Brewery and fans in Texas will now have a chance to sample their Voodoo Doughnut Maple Bacon Ale.
While all of the new menu items may take some time to digest, there won't be much. Mattox said there will be more items unveiled April 2 when the park hosts its media sneak preview of the new ballpark fare.
"There's more to come," Mattox said.
