Post-break rotation takes shape for Texas
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers have tentatively set their rotation plans following the All-Star break.
Derek Holland will start Friday's game in Seattle followed by All-Stars Yu Darvish and Matt Harrison. After an off day, the Rangers will go with Roy Oswalt and Colby Lewis for the two-game series in Oakland July 17-18.
Darvish and Harrison are getting an extra day after the break because they could be needed in the All-Star Game.
"If nothing happens that's the way it will be," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "Darvish will have a lot of time down and Harry will have a break."
Lewis had a sharp bullpen session Saturday, throwing 37 pitches. He'll throw another bullpen Tuesday at his home in Bakersfield, Calif., before rejoining the rotation.
The Rangers could get more pitching help after the All-Star break too.
Right-hander Alexi Ogando, who is out with a right groin strain, is expected to make rehab appearances Thursday and Saturday and could join the club for the series against Oakland.
Right-hander Neftali Feliz could throw live batting practice at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington Thursday before beginning a rehab assignment. Feliz will be stretched out as a starter during his rehab and likely won't join the club until late July if there are no setbacks.
Washington said the team is progressing as if Feliz will be a starter.
"We've got to keep all our options open," Washington said. "We'll see where we are. Right now you're talking about the end of July going into August and we still haven't reached the 15th of July yet. We're getting him stretched out and when he's ready to go we have a decision to make and we'll make whatever decision."
