Players react, send support to Stanton after scary injury

When Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton was struck in the face with a pitch Thursday night, fans, teammates and those around baseball held their breath.

The NL leader in home runs and RBI had to be carted off the field and taken to a local hospital for tests, and manager Mike Redmond says the right fielder's season is likely over.

It is sad news for Stanton, who had remained healthy the entire season and had a legitimate case for the NL MVP award.

After the game, consolations rolled in via Twitter.
