WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Wilmington Hammerheads broke a two-game losing streak Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Phoenix FC. Jamel Wallace and Daniel Roberts scored for the Hammerheads, who earned their third win of the season.

The Hammerheads jumped ahead early, taking the lead in the sixth minute when a long throw-in by Uriah Bentick was headed home by Jamel Wallace. The Wolves almost hit back immediately through Diego Faria, whose shot was turned wide by Phil Tuttle in the Wilmington goal.

Phoenix FC was able to get back on even terms four minutes before the break, with Donny Toia bursting through the Hammerheads defense before sending a low shot past the advancing Tuttle. Wilmington grabbed the lead back on the stroke of halftime, however, as Daniel Roberts scored his first goal for the club to put the Hammerheads ahead 2-1.

The game became more physical in the second half, with a number of yellow cards being issued and few chances for either side. Phoenix pushed to get an equalizer, but Wilmington was able to control possession enough to salt the game away, claiming all three points.
