Peterson attorney Rusty Hardin pulls a Bill Belichick

The lawyer defending suspended Vikings running back Adrian Peterson on a felony child abuse charge is using a classic Bill Belichick play to deflect attention from his client.

On Wednesday, Peterson made his first court appearance in Texas to plead not guilty to the charges. His attorney, Rusty Hardin, speaking outside the courtroom when the Peterson contingent was leaving, clearly did not want to answer questions after a brief statement.

When reporters kept peppering him anyway, Hardin decided to pull out the old Bill Belichick maneuver.

"We're on to trial," Hardin said several times, citing Belichick, who if you have forgotten, gave us this gem last week after the Patriots' blowout loss to the Chiefs two weeks ago led to all sorts of speculation around the team. The Pats came back to blow out the Bengals on Sunday, maybe because they prepped very hard for Cincinnati.
