Perez leaves game after taking pitch to the wrist

Published Sep. 6, 2016 9:36 p.m. ET

Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez left Tuesday's game in the top of the seventh inning after getting hit on the wrist by a pitch.

Perez immediately turned away in pain after taking the pitch from Minnesota Twins right-hander Ervin Santana. The All-Star catcher winced in pain on the field but walked into the dugout moments later.

Perez has managed to avoid the disabled list all year, even after being involved in a scary home-plate collision in May.

Outfielder Terrance Gore replaced Perez on the bases. Gore later came around to score and tie the game.

The team said initial X-rays of Perez's wrist came back negative.
