Padres push across season-high 9 runs in 7th inning
COLORADO-- The Padres got off to a strong start on Monday in Colorado, plating four runs before two outs were even recorded.
They then only had one hit between the second and sixth innings.
In the seventh, though, an offense that was so due for a big inning erupted for nine runs and eight hits. Those nine runs were the most the Padres had scored in an inning since July 24, 2014 against the Chicago Cubs.
Franchy Cordero got the scoring started with a two-run home run off of Jake McGee. The home run had an exit velocity of 114 mph and traveled 456 feet over the center field fence.
Following a single by Wil Myers and a walk by Eric Hosmer, Jose Pirela grounded into a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning.
With two outs, eight consecutive Padres reached base; with Carlos Asuaje, Cory Spangenberg, Matt Szczur, and Wil Myers recording RBI hits.
With the outburst, San Diego now leads 13-5 in the eighth inning.
