With the final seconds ticking down at the end of the first quarter of Wednesday's Celtics-Mavericks game, Boston's 7-foot center Kelly Olynyk decided to try and give Dirk Nowitzki a taste of his own medicine: he tried to beat Dirk with the veteran's own patented "Dirk Fadeaway." (Check it out in the video above.)

It came close but Olynyk didn't get a friendly rim. After the buzzer sounded, the third-year player approached Nowitzki and it looks like he may have said "I had to try it." Friendly laughter ensued.

After the game, Dirk joked, "That was cold-blooded." Per ESPN's Chris Forsberg, Dirk also told the 24-year-old Celtic, "Don’t give me my own move."

It didn't take long for Nowitzki to show him how it's done properly. Though certainly not one of his more pronounced or dramatic "Dirk fadeaways," the veteran drained one over the youngster in the first minute of the second quarter:

So don't get any ideas, Kristaps Porzingis.
