Murray fighting 'for every inch' as he tops 100 yards again

Published Oct. 28, 2014 1:51 a.m. ET

With 141 rushing yards Monday night against Washington, Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray extended his NFL record for consecutive 100-yard games to start the season to eight. He also pushed his league-leading rushing total to 1,293 yards, keeping him on pace to break Eric Dickerson's record of 2,108 yards set in 1984.

And, with his fumble in the second quarter, he also extended his dubious honor of most lost fumbles in the NFL this season to five.

Murray, after a nearly 50-yard screen pass, was stopped at the Washington 6-yard line, but instead of going down, he fought off tackles by five defenders before finally being stripped of the ball.

It was one of two costly turnovers on the night for the Cowboys, who lost 20-17 in overtime, but when asked about it after the game, Murray said he was not about to change the way he plays.

"I'm going to continue to play hard and fight for every inch," Murray said after the game, according to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. "It happened. I just got to lock two hands on it."

Murray was again the workhouse for Dallas, finishing with 221 total yards. Let's just hope a single-season fumbles record isn't also in Murray's future.
