More team discipline: Browns sitting Gilbert

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 3:51 p.m. ET

BALTIMORE - Rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert will not play for the Cleveland Browns in Sunday's season finale. Gilbert is one of the team's seven gameday inactives after ESPN reported he was late to a team meeting on Saturday.

The Browns already suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon after he missed a Saturday walkthrough, and rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel was fined after he was late for treatment Saturday. Sunday, CBS reported the Browns had to send security personnel to Manziel's apartment to wake him up after a Friday night of partying.

The Browns made three first-round trades in May's NFL Draft to select Gilbert at No. 8 and Manziel at No. 22. The team placed Manziel on the injured-reserve list earlier in the week after he was injured in last week's loss at Carolina. The Browns did not score a touchdown in his six quarters as the starter.

Gilbert was passed on the depth chart by undrafted rookie cornerback K'Waun Williams and fourth-rounder Pierre Desir at various points during the season. Last week, Manziel vowed "to take (football) more seriously" next season and Gilbert vowed similar, promising to be better in 2015.

The Browns have two first-round picks again in the 2015 draft. They've lost four straight games headed into Sunday's finale.

The Browns will also play Sunday without starting nose tackle Ahtyba Rubin. Starting cornerback and Pro Bowler Joe Haden returns after a one-game injury absence, and the Browns will start Taylor Gabriel and Andrew Hawkins at receiver with Gordon left home. Nick McDonald replaces the injured Ryan Seymour at center, marking the team's fourth center change since Alex Mack's season-ending injury in October.

The Ravens can claim the last AFC playoff spot with a win Sunday and a San Diego Chargers loss at Kansas City. Starting left tackle Euguene Monroe is among the Ravens inactives Sunday.
