Marlins place SS Hechavarria on 15-day DL, recall Solano

Miami Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retro June 21) with a right triceps strain prior to Wednesday's game in Philadelphia.

Hechavarria, who has not played since last Friday, experienced soreness in his right elbow during warm-up tosses last Saturday before batting practice. He was a late scratch. Ed Lucas has started each game since then in his place.

Manager Mike Redmond had been calling the issue day to day, remaining optimistic that Hechavarria could avoid the DL.

"He's had the same recurring thing from last year," Redmond said following Saturday's batting practice. "He gets treatment for it every day. Sometimes it flares up. I haven't talked to him, so maybe that's where we're at right now."

Hechavarria had started 72 of Miami’s 73 games prior to the injury. He is hitting .272 with 10 doubles, three triples and 17 RBI. His .976 fielding percentage ranked seventh among National League shortstops.

The Marlins recalled Donovan Solano from Triple-A New Orleans. He was sent down June 16 when Miami decided to call up Justin Bour as a left-handed bat off the bench and backup at first for Garrett Jones.

Solano was used sparingly off the bench, hitting .196 with a homer and six RBI in 35 games (55 plate appearances).
