Lynx cut Gemelos, Jeffery to bring roster to 12
MINNEAPOLIS -- One more roster move, and Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve will have her team for the 2012-13 season.
The Lynx waived rookie guards Jacki Gemelos and Janeesa Jeffery on Wednesday, bringing their total roster count to 12. Reeve has until 4 p.m. Thursday to make a final cut and reach the WNBA’s player limit.
Injuries rocked Gemelos’ college career at Southern California, where she suffered four ACLs and underwent five knee surgeries. Minnesota’s third-round pick in the 2012 WNBA draft, she played only 5 minutes, 35 seconds this preseason and made her one shot attempt.
Jeffery, a second-round selection out of Colorado, scored two points and tallied four rebounds in 17 minutes spread across the Lynx’s two preseason games.
Center Shawnice Wilson and guard Sugar Rodgers appear to be the final two players battling for a spot. Wilson has appeared in both exhibition games, scoring three points and pulling down three boards, while Rodgers made her debut Tuesday and hit a pair of 3-pointers.
