Louis Hildebrandt, believed to have been one of America's oldest living stakes-winning jockeys, has died. He was 93.
Hildebrandt passed away Friday, his family said. He retired from racing in 1947 after a series of injuries, but not before winning top races like the Flamingo Stakes at Hialeah Park and the Monmouth Park Handicap aboard Round View, a descendant of Triple Crown champion Man O'War.
Hildebrandt had more than 100 victories in his career for Sanford Farms, after which he became an author about thoroughbred racing and an annual fixture at the Saratoga Race Course meet.
Hildebrandt's wife, Betty, died in 1995. He is survived by a son, Louis Jr., two daughters, Judith Ann Pond and Mary Pat Agresta, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements had not been announced as of Saturday night.
