Leonard wants to carry on Duncan's championship legacy

If you are going to set your goals high, you might as well shoot for the stars.

That is what San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard has done.

In an article from the The San Diego Union-Tribune that discusses whether the former San Diego Aztec star is already a top 10 player in the NBA, Leonard talked about what motivates him to progress on the court.

"My motivation wasn't really to get a $95 million contract, you know," Leonard said. "I'm not out here for the money. I want to be a great player. I don't feel anything changed."

Leonard signed a 5-year max contract extension with the Spurs in July after coming off a season in which he averaged 16.5 points and 7.2 rebound per game.

But it's titles...not money...that drives Leonard.

"I'm just trying to be the best player I can be," Leonard said. "I'm just trying to pass Tim Duncan in championships if I can one day. That's my motivation, that's what I strive for."

Duncan has five titles with the Spurs. It will take a couple more contracts for Leonard to sign in San Antonio, but at 24 years old and one title already under his bet, it's a goal that the burgeoning superstar can possible obtain.
