Jerry Jones: Cowboys not the same team that went to Seattle

Published Oct. 17, 2014 12:38 p.m. ET

The Cowboys have yet to reach the halfway point of their season, but owner/general manager Jerry Jones said there was something special about last week's win against Seattle.

In an interview with 105.3 FM The Fan on Friday morning, Jones said the 30-23 win, which improved the Cowboys to 5-1, was the type of game that can change a team.

"We're not the same group that went to Seattle. I know that's pretty dramatic, and that's waving a lot of arms here, but still -- we know we can do it," Jones said. "There's an old adage in evaluating football players, that if you see them do something one time, physically, then you know they can do it."

The Cowboys went toe-to-toe with the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks and came out with a road win. DeMarco Murray ran for 115 yards and the Cowboys rushed for 162 as a team -- 100 yards more than what Seattle had been allowing in prior games.

Jones said the key now is to maintain that level of play, starting this weekend against the Giants. As impressive as Dallas looked in Seattle, he pointed out that the Cowboys surrendered a 10-point lead and needed overtime to defeat Houston in their last home game.

"This team knows it can play at that level. Against Houston, it played at high levels at times, but then it played at low levels at times," he said. "It was pretty consistent throughout the game at a high level the other day, as everybody knows."

It wasn't just a statement win for Jones' team, but it was also his birthday on Monday. It wasn't surprising to hear him say after the win that he wanted to stop and smell the roses --€“ just for a bit. With a division rival coming to town Sunday, though, Jones said he was ready to put the Seahawks game behind him.

"I'm through smelling the roses this week. I'm living this thing play-by-play, series-by-series, game-by-game," he said. "Obviously, when we've got a little time, we like to look ahead. I do that some, but the big thing is how everybody that's on the team is buying into it."
