Less than 24 hours after reducing their roster to the NFL's 53-man limit, the Jacksonville Jaguars were awarded tight end Mickey Shuler off waivers Sunday from the Atlanta Falcons.
To make room for Shuler, whose father played with the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles from 1978 to 1991, the Jaguars waived rookie tight end Marcel Jensen.
Shuler appeared in six games with two starts for the Miami Dolphins in 2010 and spent part of the next three years with the Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills. He was waived by the Falcons two days after catching three passes in their 24-14 preseason victory over the Jaguars.
Jacksonville also signed seven players to its practice squad, including six who spent the preseason with the organization. Teams are allowed up to 10 players on their practice squad.
The six guys who played for the Jaguars this preseason are offensive tackle Cody Booth, defensive tackle DeAndre Coleman, safety Craig Loston, quarterback Stephen Morris, wide receiver Kerry Taylor and linebacker Marcus Whitfield. The Jaguars also added rookie wide receiver Tony Washington.
