Incarcerated Cowboys fan sues NFL for $88 billion over reversed Dez Bryant call

An apparent Dallas Cowboys fan -- an inmate at Fremont Correctional Facility in Colorado -- is suing the NFL and others in federal court over the officials’ call in the Packers-Cowboys NFC divisional playoff game that overturned a go-ahead touchdown pass to Dez Bryant that they had initially ruled a completion.

On behalf of himself, Dez Bryant (No. 88), all Cowboys fans and everyone living in Texas, Terry Hendrix is seeking the ludicrous sum of $88,987,654,321.88 in damages (nice numerical shoutouts to Bryant) -- or approximately 27 times the current value of the Cowboys franchise -- for negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and reckless disregard for reversing the call on the basis that Bryant failed to complete the process of a catch.

In the one-page, handwritten lawsuit, Hendrix claims that officials Dean Blandino and Gene Steratore as well as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell "are wrong and have stolen a victory from the plaintiffs.”

With due respect to the Cowboys' offensive line, here is where Hendrix's case gets a bit tenuous: He wrote that after the long fourth-down conversion on an “outstanding 31-yard catch,” Dallas’s offensive line "would have perfectly created an 'Autobahn' for DeMarco Murray to drive into the end zone for the score and victory."

Even accepting Hendrix’s claim of an imminent Cowboys rushing TD as true, about three to four minutes would have remained for the Packers with no more than a field-goal deficit, and considering what we saw from the Packers in the NFC championship game, that would have been more than enough time to come back.

The case will get tossed for about 88 different reasons, most of all because the law does not protect anyone from a controversial or erroneous call in the NFL. Nevertheless, Hendrix has made his point with the amusing legal action.

Only in America, only for “America's Team."
