Hawks tab Baylor forward Taurean Prince with No. 12 pick
Wing depth was a major need for the Atlanta Hawks entering the 2016 draft, and it appears the franchise addressed it with the No. 12 overall pick.
The Utah Jazz selected Baylor senior Taurean Prince, a 6-foot-7 forward fitting the NBA's 3-and-D mold, for the Hawks following Wednesday's three-team trade that sent Jeff Teague to Indiana and George Hill to Utah.
The trade — and, by extension, the Hawks' selection of Prince — can not be made official until July.
If the Hawks elect to keep Prince, he immediately adds to a wing rotation including veterans Kyle Korver and Thabo Sefolosha. With the potential departure of starter Kent Bazemore in free agency, Prince could slot into coach Mike Budenholzer's bench rotation alongside the likes of Tim Hardaway Jr.
Prince averaged 16 points, six rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in his final season in the Big 12, and his lengthy frame and wingspan helps him project as one of the top defensive wings available. Add in the fact that he finished his four-year career as a 38 percent 3-point shooter on 348 attempts, and the 21-year-old could help the 2016-17 roster.
