George Zimmerman vs. DMX boxing match canceled, says promoter

So that boxing match between George Zimmerman and DMX that had no chance of ever happening? Yeah, you guessed it. It’s not going to happen.

Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman wrote on Twitter on Saturday that he had gotten cold feet – and he wants nothing to do with a match-up involving Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin in 2012.

“I want to thank everyone for the good n bad comments I've made the choice to cancel the fight w George Zimmermann more to life (than) money,” Feldman wrote.

All the tweets related to the cancellation of the bout have been deleted as of Saturday evening. Publicist Domenick Nati confirmed in a statement, however, that the fight – which was never official in the first place – will not occur.

‪"Damon Feldman has announced that the George Zimmerman fight is cancelled via his Twitter,” Nati said. “As previously stated, DMX never agreed to the fight and we thank you for all of the support from DMX's fans. This situation will not affect any of DMX's upcoming concerts in America or around the world."

Late Friday night, Feldman tweeted that the news conference to officially announce the bout was Wednesday. Earlier in the week, Feldman said DMX had been chosen out of 15,000 applicants to box Zimmerman, who was acquitted of murder in the Martin case back in July.

“I am going to beat the living f**k out of him,” DMX said. "… I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him up right.”

DMX added that he would also urinate on Zimmerman’s face. But Nati said Wednesday that DMX had never signed anything to make the match a go.

Maybe this publicity stunt can go away now until Zimmerman finds another tactic to remain in the spotlight, which he seems rather addicted to.
