Florida hoops coach busted on sex rap
A girls basketball coach was arrested Tuesday in Florida and charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old player on his team, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.
According to the Democrat, 26-year-old Rodrick Henderson is being held on a total of $10,000 bond and faces two charges of sexual assault after the parents of a player on his Essence traveling basketball team found that Henderson and their daughter had been talking on the phone and via text “at all hours of the day.”
When questioned by police, the unnamed girl admitted to having a sexual relationship with Henderson, whom she met through the basketball team two years ago, when she was a sophomore in high school.
According to court documents obtained by the Democrat, Kimberly Davis, the director of Essence Girls Basketball, said there was no way Henderson could have mistakenly thought the girl was 18, because players 18 or older must have special permission to participate in the program.
In an email to FOX Sports, Davis said the program is “giving the police our full cooperation in this matter,” but declined to comment further.
The paper also reports that Henderson was a volunteer coach with the JV boys basketball team at Godby High School in Tallahassee. However, he is no longer volunteering with the team and is no longer allowed on the campus of Godby High or any other Leon County Schools.
