Fantasy Football Week 5 Packers Vikings Top Plays
Week 5's Thursday night contest between the Packers and Vikings is chock full of fantasy football storylines.
Behind center, you have the what-have-you-done-for-us-lately Aaron Rodgers' owners finally realizing Olivia Munn is an asset and not a detriment. A-Rod goes off for four touchdowns and 300-plus yards against the Bears and all of sudden we remember why we drafted him.
His two-man-band of Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb are arguably the best receiving tandem in the NFL. They’ve combined to average roughly 30 fantasy points per game and remain must starts every time they take the field.
As for Eddie Lacy, some fantasy owners considered trading him for 50 cents on the dollar this week. Two reasons why this is not wise. First, to borrow a poker term, you are pot-committed. That is to say you invested a first-round pick and to sell now would liquidate a healthy asset and that leads us to the second reason why not to sell – Lacy is healthy. That is a rare occurrence in fantasy football this season. Lacy is a cog in what is expected to be a high-scoring offense the rest of this season. Depending on who your RB2 and RB3 are on the roster, my assumption is the trade offers you are receiving or considering in exchange for Lacy’s services don’t warrant a move at this time. Stay the course.
Teddy Bridgewater looked sharp in his first career start against the Falcons. He passed for over 300 yards with 27 rushing yards and a score. Naturally, we as fantasy owners can’t have nice things so a late-game injury against Atlanta has him questionable heading into the game tonight.
Where fantasy owners are going to bang their head against a wall for the next few games will be deciding between Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon investment and startability. Most already own Asiata, but the rookie McKinnon saw an 18 percent ownership increase this week. He still, however, remains available in 80 percent of leagues and based on what’s out there, deserves a spot on your roster.
Asiata starts without question against the Packers who are allowing 25.2 fantasy points per game and McKinnon in some deeper leagues could FLEX out.
I’m ignoring the rest of the Vikings against the Packers as its feast or famine with an emphasis on famine in terms of fantasy points per game.
