Friday’s MLB action starts at 2:20PM EST with one afternoon game with another 14 games on the 7:05PM EST Main Slate!

I will continue to track winning Tournament lineups and compare trends over 5 day periods to help us understand what it takes to remain profitable. I HIGHLY recommend each of you do this each morning to look back on the previous night and understand how the winning lineups are constructed in the games you participate in.

The view below tracks GPP entries over various time periods, breaking out key metrics to understand the trends and compositions of GPP winning rosters:

Time Period Score Pitcher Salary Pitcher % Hitter % Hitter $/Player Value
Season 255.8 $ 8,622 25% 75% $ 3,297 7.31
5 Day 240.1 $ 8,900 25% 75% $ 3,263 6.86
Prev Day 217.3 $ 7,700 22% 78% $ 3,413 6.21

Now on to the picks…For more DFS Strategy insights, check out my latest article to help take your game to the next level! I highly recommend gamers track their game performance across the various types of games they play – GPP’s, Cash, Multipliers etc – as this simple exercise will help teach you more about profitable roster construction than you can imagine.

With a game in Coors Field with two very hittable left-handed pitchers, loading up on Coors Field bats is my preferred spending strategy on this slate. As such it will be important to find valuable pitching arms in order to fit in the high-priced Rockies and DBacks bats!

Jameson Taillon ($7,400) at home versus Milwaukee: One of the best point per dollar plays on this slate can be found in Pittsburgh as the Pirates will recall their prized rookie arm to start against the Brewers.

Taillon is one of the largest favorites on the day (-200) and faces a team that strikes out at the highest rate (25.8%) of any team on the slate!

In his short career, Taillon has actually faced the Brewers three times already giving up 8 ER in 15 IP but dig deeper and you will find that one player, Hernan Perez is responsible for most of that damage. Perez is 5-7 against Taillon with 3 HR’s and 7 RBI’s in those three games so if you are playing Taillon you are hoping he pitches around Perez!

Julio Urias ($8,400) at home versus San Diego: A great pivot off Taillon with similar upside is the Dodgers prized rookie who gets an enticing match-up with the Padres.

Urias is in a similar boat to Taillon as he find himself as a -200 favorite and faces the second highest strikeout prone teams (24.8%) in San Diego.

Urias is coming into this game in great form, racking up 50 points per game in his last two starts against the Cubs and Reds.

With the desire to pay up for Coors Field bats, Urias and Taillon are easy plug and play options and I will look to build multiple rosters with these two as my key SP plays!

Rockies and DBacks: This is the game to target and although it may seem “chalk” this is one of those spots where playing the clear top option is a smart strategy.

The Arizona bats actually have the best match up as they face Jorge de la Rosa who has one of the highest SIERA of any SP on the slate.

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,800) is the top play on the board but I actually love the Dbacks OF as they may get overlooked by casual gamers. A.J. Pollock ($4,200) has been playing well since his return off the D.L., averaging 12 ppg and has stolen 4 bases in 5 games. Pollock’s quiet return to Arizona leads him to be overlooked in DFS and with his stolen base upside matched with the great hitting environment makes him a phenomenal play in the OF!

Yasmany Tomas ($3,700) & Rickie Weeks ($3,500) make for reasonably cost-effective plays in this match-up and assuming Weeks bats in the heart of the order as he typically does against LHP, he makes for one of the best value plays on the slate!
