Ducks honor victims of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy

Days after the hockey world community was shook by the news coming from Canada of the Humboldt Broncos car accident on the way to a playoff game that resulted in 15 people-- 10 players, two coaches, the team radio play-by-play announcer, team statistician and the bus driver-- dying, the Anaheim Ducks decided to take action.

Following practice, Ducks players lined up their sticks outside the Honda Center as a sign of respect for the team as part of the worldwide #PutYourSticksOut campaign.

The players sticks will be auctioned and proceeds will be used to benefit victims of the tragedy.

In addition, the Ducks are urging fans to leave own their sticks alongside the statue until the end of the first game of the playoff series vs. the Sharks and they will be donated to The Rinks Youth Hockey Players in financial need in honor of the Humboldt Broncos.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up for people to donate money for the victims and their families. At time of writing, the page has raised over $8.7 million, more than doubling its initial goal, from more than 105,000 people. This currently makes the page the third-most success page in the history of the site, trailing only the Time's Up Legal Defense fund, which raised over $21 million, and a page set up for the victims of the Las Vegas shooting, which raised nearly $12 million.
