DraftKings Early MLB Picks For September 7

There are four afternoon games today. Half of the pitchers cost $8,000 or more. Should we try for two of them since DraftKings has two pitcher slots, or should we find bargains and pay for hitters? Should we use two from the middle tier? Let’s check the past stats for some help.

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Alex Meyer has never faced the A’s. He struggled in the majors with the Twins earlier this year. Will he have better luck against a below average Oakland offense?

Jharel Cotton will make his major league debut today against the Angels. He was the key piece in the Rich Hill trade. Cotton had a 2.82 ERA and 0.92 WHIP at AAA Nashville in 38.1 innings since the trade. He is an interesting flier pick for GPP tournaments.

    Best Bet:

Noah Syndergaard ($11,000): Thor has absolutely dominated the Reds. They have only nine hits (all singles) in 52 at bats(.173) with two runs, no walks, and 14 strikeouts. He has only given up 12 runs in six starts since August 1st. Thor is easily the best option on the slate today. It isn’t even close.

    Honorable Mention:

Dylan Bundy ($8,300): The Rays have a pair of solo homers against Bundy in 21 at bats, but they also have seven strikeouts. That strikeout potential is enough to use him against the mostly light-hitting Rays. Bundy wont get you as many points as Thor, but if you use the extra $2,700 wisely, you can win with stud bats.

The Mets have driven in 13 runs in just 51 at bats against Anthony DeSclafani. Yoenis Cespedes ($4,000) has three hits in five at bats, but he isn’t responsible for any of them! Lucas Duda, Neil WalkerJuan Lagares, and David Wright are responsible for nine of them, but they are all on the DL. Kelly Johnson ($2,900) is 2-5 with a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI. Curtis Granderson ($3,800) only has two hits in seven at bats, but he has a walk, a double, and a RBI.

The Tigers are hitting .302 against Jose Quintana in 258 at bats, so you know there are some stack options here. Miguel Cabrera ($4,100) is 15-41(.366) with five walks, five doubles, two homers and seven driven in. Jose Iglesias ($2,500) once again a good low priced option. He is only 5-20, but he has two doubles and a RBI against Quintana. Ian Kinsler ($5,000) is 13-43(.302) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and three RBI. Victor Martinez ($2,900) is 15-36(.417) with two doubles and three RBI. Justin Upton ($4,300) is 4-11 with a walk, a double, and two driven in. J.D. Martinez ($4,800) is 8-25(.320) with three walks, a double, a triple, and two RBI. There are plenty of options here!

Jose Abreu ($5,400) is 9-17(.529) with two walks, three doubles, two homers, and seven RBI against Anibal Sanchez. Melky Cabrera ($4,000) is 15-37(.405) with a double, a triple, and five RBI. Adam Eaton ($4,500) is 7-15(.467) with three walks, two homers, and five RBI. Avisail Garcia ($3,400) is 3-12 with a pair of RBI. Justin Morneau ($3,400) is 8-27(.296) with two walks, two doubles, and two RBI. Stacking against Sanchez looks like a great idea right now.

The Orioles have nine home runs against Drew Smyly, so there is a stack here! Chris Davis ($3,800) is only 3-19(.158), but all three hits are home runs and he has six RBI. Jonathan Schoop ($3,200) is 4-15(.267) with a walk, a double, and a solo homer. Mark Trumbo ($4,000) only has two hits in nine at bats, but he has a walk, a homer, and two RBI. Adam Jones ($3,800) is only 4-20, but he has a walk, a double, a homer, and four RBI. J.J. Hardy‘s ($2,700) only hit in 12 at bats is a homer and he has driven in three. Steve Pearce ($3,800) only has a single and a homer in 12 at bats, but he has walked three times and driven in two runs.

Zack Cozart ($3,000) has driven in both runs for the Reds against Noah Syndergaard in his three at bats.

Evan Longoria ($3,600) and Brad Miller ($3,900) both hit solo homers against Dylan Bundy back on July 17th. What can they do for an encore?
