Tales of how coaches landed a recruit often resemble a fishing story that an uncle once told.
The fish that was caught was "this big." And it took forever to get that fish to the boat.
Maryland football coach Randy Edsall may have exaggerated his tale to the Glades as he was trying to recruit Glades Central High's Will Likely.
Edsall told reporters in February, on National Signing Day, that he had two strange vehicles follow him and chase him for nearly three miles. Edsall said he called 911 for help before eluding the cars, the Washington Post reported.
A few area high school coaches have their doubts about the veracity of the story.
“People think they know about Pahokee – ‘You’re taking your life in your hands when you go to the Belle Glade and Pahokee area,’” Pahokee High coach Blaze Thompson told the Palm Beach Post. “It’s just not true."
The Post requested that the sheriff's offices in Palm Beach and Hendry counties find a record of the call, an incident that supposedly happened on Dec. 10, but no record was found.
A Maryland spokesman said the school stands by Edsall's story.
