D-backs send down Marshall, Wagner, recall Hessler
PHOENIX -- With a continuing need to replenish an overworked bullpen, the Diamondbacks made another roster shuffle on Monday, sending Tyler Wagner and Evan Marshall to Triple-A Reno and recalling left-hander Keith Hessler from Double-A Mobile.
A corresponding roster move is forthcoming.
Keith Hessler
The Diamondbacks were forced to use eight pitchers in Sunday's 13-inning, 12-10 loss to the Pirates after starter Robbie Ray failed to get out of the fourth inning. Marshall (0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in five appearances) had pitched five scoreless innings before being roughed up for two runs and taking the loss in Sunday's game.
Wagner also pitched on Sunday, working three innings and giving up five hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out five. He was the winning pitcher in Thursday's victory at San Francisco, pitching five scoreless innings for his first major-league victory. For the season he is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings.
Hessler pitched in 18 games with the D-backs last season, going 0-1 with an 8.03 ERA. He had a 5.06 ERA in 5 1/3 innings for Mobile this season.
