Coyotes hire Elkin, Schwab as goaltending coaches

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Coyotes have hired Jon Elkin and Corey Schwab as the organization's goaltending coaches.

Elkin, who will work with all goaltenders on the Coyotes' NHL roster, has coached at multiple levels in professional hockey, including three seasons as goaltending coach for the Calgary Flames (1999-2002). He founded Jon Elkin's Goalie Schools in Toronto in 1984 at age 16 and has seen 21 NHL goalies come through his program, including Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith.

Schwab, 44, spent the past eight seasons as a goaltending development coach for the San Jose Sharks. He will be responsible for the Coyotes' minor league goaltenders and will assist in goalie evaluations. Schwab also spent three seasons as associate goaltending coach and scout for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Schwab played 147 games over eight seasons in the NHL with New Jersey, Tampa Bay, Vancouver and Toronto. He had a career record of 42-63-13 record with a 2.89 goals against average.
