CCL Roundup: Galaxy, Sounders reach last eight

Seattle Sounders 3 -- Vancouver Whitecaps 0

Sounders FC defeated the Whitecaps for the second time inside a week to seal Group F at CenturyLink Field. Seattle grabbed the initiative from the outset with a blended side and took the lead when Lamar Neagle poked home from close range just after the half-hour. Chad Barrett atoned for an earlier miss by playing a part in the second goal, though Nelson Valdez eventually received credit for the header. Neagle added a third early in the second half to scupper any faint Whitecaps hopes and secure a spot in the final eight. Vancouver wraps up its Champions League obligations with a trip to Honduran side Olimpia next month.

Central FC 1 -- LA Galaxy 1

Alan Gordon confirmed the Galaxy's perch atop Group D with a late goal at Hasely Crawford Stadium. Bruce Arena's side traveled to Trinidad & Tobago with the quarterfinals firmly in sight, but Willis Plaza's second-minute goal disrupted those plans. The visitors huffed and puffed with a weakened side until producing an equalizer eight minutes from time. Ignacio Maganto and Raul Mendiola did all of the hard work in the buildup to allow Gordon to sweep home into the vacated net. The pointed proved enough to advance to the quarterfinals and render the group finale at Comunicaciones next month relevant only for seeding purposes.
