TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals guard Evan Mathis will miss the rest of the season because of an ankle injury.

The Cardinals placed Mathis on injured reserve Saturday, two days after he was hurt in a 33-21 victory at San Francisco. He was playing through foot and toe injuries.

The team also lost fellow starting guard Mike Iupati to an ankle injury Thursday night. Earl Watford took over at right guard for Mathis, and tackle John Wetzel replaced Iupati

The 34-year-old Mathis signed with the Cardinals as a free after starting for Super Bowl champion Denver last season
