Cabrera plays jump ball on dead ball
We all know Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera is one of the best hitters in baseball, but Thursday he showed against the New York Yankees he might have the "hops" to make it in the NBA.
Batting in the bottom of the first inning, Cabrera took an 0-2 pitch high from Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda. The ball deflected off the top of catcher Chris Stewart's glove and into the upper padding of Comerica Park's backstop. The backstop, acting as a spring, popped the ball into the air.
As Stewart settled himself under the descending ball, which was no longer in play, Cabrera jumped into the air and snatched it above Stewart's reaching glove.
"Miggy got some hops," exclaimed Tigers color analyst Rod Allen.
The next pitch, Cabrera reminded everybody he is a baseball player first by hitting a single between third and short.
