ST. FRANCIS, Wis. -- Filling the box score in nearly every category, Bucks guard Monta Ellis has been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week. It’s the third Player of the Week honor in Ellis’ career but his first with the Bucks. With Golden State, Ellis was the Western Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 20-26, 2010 and again for March 5-11, 2012, his final week with the Warriors.
Leading the Bucks to a 2-1 record, Ellis averaged 21.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 4.0 steals per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Ellis scored 20 points in Wednesday’s win over Brooklyn but also added six rebounds, seven assists and six steals while knocking down all three of his three-pointers. It was the first time since 2006 that Ellis was perfect on three-pointers with a minimum of three attempts.
In Milwaukee’s 19-point win over Miami on Saturday, Ellis scored only 14 points but dished out nine assists and had five steals. With his 30 points against Detroit on Sunday, Ellis now has five 30-point games on the season, which ranks seventh in the NBA. In his last five games, Ellis is averaging 25.6 points.
This is the second Player of the Week award for the Bucks this season. Brandon Jennings took home the honor for the season's first week.
