Bucks bring back point guard Gutierrez
The Milwaukee Bucks signed point guard Jorge Gutierrez to a multiyear contract Tuesday, filling the roster at 15.
Milwaukee did a similar deal with Chris Wright at the end of last season. Gutierrez is signed for the remainder of this season and has a non-guaranteed contract for the 2015-16 campaign.
Gutierrez averaged 3.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 13.4 minutes over seven games with the Bucks earlier this season. The 26-year-old signed his first 10-day deal with Milwaukee on Jan. 28 and signed a second 10-day contract on Feb. 7.
The Bucks opted not to sign Gutierrez for the remainder of the season, letting him go on Feb. 17. Gutierrez rejoined the Canton Charge of the NBA's Developmental League on March 4.
In 15 games with the Charge, Gutierrez averaged 13.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.7 steals over 29.8 minutes per game.
Gutierrez will be eligible to play in the playoffs for the Bucks since he was not on the roster of another NBA team after March 1. Milwaukee now has four point guards on the roster, with Gutierrez joining Michael Carter-Williams, Tyler Ennis and Jerryd Bayless.
Milwaukee will retain the rights of the defensive specialist through the summer and into next season. Players on non-guaranteed contracts must be let go or have their contracts guaranteed by mid-January.
