Buccaneers unveil new uniforms for 2014

First, there were the new helmets. Now, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have revealed a much different uniform scheme for 2014 and beyond.
On Monday, the team unveiled its new NFL Nike Elite 51 uniforms for the upcoming campaign, a look that bears little resemblance to what was seen in the Bucs' most recent pewter-and-red appearance from 1997 to 2013.
As Tampa Bay's release announcing the changes describes, "the base uniform color has been energized with richer pewter, juxtaposed with a brighter, more vibrant shade of 'Buccaneer Red.' In homage to the Buccaneers' early uniforms, the look also features 'Bay Orange' as a new primary trim color and accent on both the jersey and the pants.
"Today marks the culmination of more than two years of research and planning to bring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into a new and exciting era of our history," Bucs co-chairman Edward Glazer said in the release. "We worked closely with our partners at Nike to design a uniform that would set the standard for both design and functionality. The result is a sleek, modern design that honors our championship past while also establishing a new, bolder identity moving forward."
The most interesting part of the change is found in a reflective chrome border around the numbers on the front, back and shoulders. The team says the "chrome border incorporates a technologically advanced reflective coating that adds a new dimension, increased readability and a unique glow to the numbers." The Bucs become the first NFL franchise to incorporate the reflective chrome border into its look.
The new uniforms also will include a re-designed secondary logo -- the Bucs' wooden ship -- on the right shoulder. An abbreviated "BUCS" moniker will be seen on the left shoulder, and the new flag logo is displayed on both hips of the pants.
New coach. New helmets. Now, new uniforms.
The changes keep coming for the Bucs. They hope results on the field do too.
