Recent Cleveland Browns draft pick Armonty Bryant was arrested last week on DUI charges.
Bryant was arrested for driving under the influence with refusal, which means a suspect refused to blow properly into an Intoxylizer testing machine. The deficient reading picked up by the machine showed Bryant with blood-alcohol content readings of 0.10 and 0.09. The legal minimum for intoxication is 0.08.
"I just don't want to lose my driver's license," Bryant told the arresting officer, according to the Ada (Okla.) News.
Bryant finished his college career at East Central Oklahoma University, an NCAA Div. II program in Ada. He was arrested at 3:46 a.m. in Ada and not far from the stadium in which he played his college games, according to the report.
The Browns selected Bryant in the seventh round of the NFL Draft late last month. He was a college defensive end who projected to the 3-4 outside linebacker spot in the NFL.
He was suspended three games last season for selling $20 worth of marijuana to an undercover officer in an on-campus parking lot.
After being drafted, Bryant told Cleveland media on a conference call he had learned from that arrest.
"Now that I have a second chance, I feel I won't let anyone down," he said.
Bryant posted $500 bail later Friday morning and was released.
The Browns rookies report to the Cleveland area this Thursday, May 9, for rookie minicamp.
