The Browns parted ways with two veteran linebackers Friday morning.
Quentin Groves and Larry Grant were released by the team via an announcement posted on the team's Twitter account.
Groves was signed last year as an unrestricted free agent from the Cardinals and appeared in five games before being placed on injured reserve on Nov. 11 after having surgery on his ankle. He had five tackles, including two sacks and two quarterback hurries.
Groves had a sack in the season opener against the Dolphins and then injured his left ankle in the second game of the season against the Ravens. After missing the next three games he returned on Oct. 13 against the Lions. He re-injured the ankle against the Packers on Oct. 20 and was inactive against the Chiefs. He returned against the Ravens and sacked Joe Flacco before hurting the ankle again. He was healthy now and took part in the recently concluded OTAs.
Groves was also voted the captain of the special teams in his first year with the Browns. He was credited with helping then defensive coordinator, Ray Horton implement his defensive system.
Grant, a five-year veteran, was just signed by the team on May 21. The former Ohio State player most recently played two games for the Bears in 2013.
