Bridgewater questionable, Greenway out vs. Packers

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The guessing will continue up until game time Thursday night regarding the status of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Minnesota listed Bridgewater as questionable for Thursday's game at Green Bay, meaning the rookie star coming off an impressive first NFL start has a 50 percent chance of playing against the Packers. Bridgewater was "limited" in a walk-through the team had Wednesday.

"Teddy Bridgewater has been in the playbook hard all week," coach Mike Zimmer said on Sirius XM radio Wednesday. "You have to have a few scenarios ready if he can't go. We will see how (he's) doing tomorrow . . . It's a long season so we don't want to put him at risk."

The Vikings have declared linebacker Chad Greenway and tight end Kyle Rudolph out for Thursday. Greenway, who had started 115 consecutive games, will miss his second straight game with a broken rib and broken hand. Rudolph had double sports hernia surgery last week and is out several weeks.

Bridgewater was 19-of-30 passing for 317 yards in a win against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. He didn't commit a turnover and scored his first NFL touchdown on a 13-yard scramble. But Bridgewater missed the final 10 minutes after spraining his left ankle on a run.

On a short week, Bridgewater had missed Monday and Tuesday's practices. He was scheduled to run for the first time later Tuesday and possibly throw Wednesday.

"It feels pretty good," Bridgewater said Tuesday. "Each day making progress, so just going to keep moving, moving forward and try to get ready for Thursday."

Bridgewater was getting "mental reps" in practice early in the week. But he would have to enter his third career regular-season game with little practice time.

"He's pretty mentally sharp on all this stuff," Zimmer said Tuesday. "He's out here today in the walkthrough, so he's fine mentally. He's good."

If Bridgewater can't play, Minnesota will have to go to quarterback Christian Ponder, who began the year as a third-stringer. Bridgewater took over for Matt Cassel, who broke his foot and is out the rest of the season, in Week 3.

"I'm preparing to play, but we're hoping for the best with Teddy," Ponder said Tuesday. "Talk to Teddy, he's doing everything he can to prepare to get ready and play and we'll see what happens."
