Brewers option Peralta to Triple-A; Garza to return

MILWAUKEE -- It was a tough day to be a starting pitcher at Miller Park.

New York's Logan Verrett and Milwaukee's Wily Peralta were headed to their club's Triple-A affiliates Sunday, a day after facing each other.

Milwaukee sent down its opening day starter in demoting Peralta, who got the win Saturday after giving up five hits and three runs in five innings. He also hit his career homer.

It was still wasn't enough to prevent Peralta from being optioned to the minors. The four-year veteran was 4-7 with a 6.68 ERA this season.

"If they send me to Triple-A, of course, you don't want to go to Triple-A, but I'm going to go out there and do the job to get back here," Peralta said after the 7-4 victory Saturday over the Mets.

Matt Garza is set to rejoin the Brewers rotation on Tuesday in San Francisco. Garza has been on the disabled list all season with a right back muscle injury.

Garza was 6-14 with a 5.63 ERA in 2015.

"It's a tough decision," manager Craig Counsell said. "We were just a point where we have six starters and we need to get better performance out of that spot."
