Brewers minor-league stars of the week: July 13
Each week FOXSportsWisconsin.com identifies the top pitcher and position player from the Milwaukee Brewers' top four main affiliates: Triple-A Colorado Springs, Double-A Biloxi, High-A Brevard County and Low-A Wisconsin. Here's a look at all eight players who made the list for the week of June 29 to July 5.
TRIPLE-A COLORADO SPRINGS (2-5)
Player of the Week: Jason Rogers
Week stats: .370 (10 for 27), 1 HR, 4 RBI
Recent highlights: After being sent back down to the Sky Sox by the Brewers on July 3, Rogers put together a solid offensive week in Triple-A. He had three multi-hit games, including a two-hit performance on July 8 when he homered and drove in a couple of runs in Colorado Springs' 8-7 win over Oklahoma City. Rogers is batting .365 on the season with a 1.020 OPS.
Pitcher of the Week: Tim Dillard
Week stats: 4 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Recent highlights: It was not a good week for Sky Sox pitchers, which means a journeyman middle reliever who tossed four innings gets the nod here. Dillard threw three innings in the July 8 win against Oklahoma City, allowing a couple hits and striking out three. For the season, the 31-year-old has a 6.27 ERA in 18 appearances.
DOUBLE-A BILOXI (2-5)
Player of the Week: Orlando Arcia
Week stats: .316 (6 for 19), 4 RBI, 2 SB
Recent highlights: Arcia, the Brewers' top prospect, continues to be the most consistent offensive player on the Shuckers. He notched two multi-hit games, including an impressive performance on July 9 when he had two doubles, three RBI and a couple of stolen bases. For the season, the 20-year-old shortstop is batting .313 with a .812 OPS.
Pitcher of the Week: Jorge Lopez
Week stats: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
Recent highlights: For the second week in a row, just like Arcia on the offensive side, Lopez is the Shuckers' top pitcher. The 22-year-old starter lost his July 8 decision against Montgomery, but it was another sterling performance for him on the mound. He now hasn't allowed more than two runs in six straight starts, lowering his season ERA to 2.54 with 82 strikeouts in 85 innings.
HIGH-A BREVARD COUNTY (2-5)
Player of the Week: Chris McFarland
Week stats: .313 (10 for 32), 1 HR, 6 RBI
Recent highlights: McFarland, from the leadoff spot in the Manatees' order, hit safely in six of seven games this week, including two multi-hit performances. He hit a grand slam in Brevard County's 5-3 win over Tampa on July 9, and scored six runs during the week. On the season, the 22-year-old second baseman is batting .283 with 17 steals and 40 runs scored in 87 games.
Pitcher of the Week: Jorge Ortega
Week stats: 7 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Recent highlights: Ortega picked up the win July 8 against Tampa, throwing eight solid innings and showing off good control. The 22-year-old righty is 7-5 on the season with a 2.16 ERA and only seven walks in 100 innings.
LOW-A WISCONSIN (2-5)
Player of the Week: Carlos Leal
Week stats: .400 (10 for 25), 6 RBI, 4 R
Recent highlights: Leal continued to swing the bat well for the Timber Rattlers, putting up three multi-hit games. He had eight base hits in the last three games and is now batting .322 on the season. The 24-year-old catcher, who was drafted in the 34th round in 2014, has a .806 OPS in 54 games.
Pitcher of the Week: David Burkhalter
Week stats: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
Recent highlights: No one truly stood out for the Timber Rattlers this week, but Burkhalter did well in his only start. In Wisconsin's 9-1 win over Beloit on July 10, he didn't issue a walk and struck out six Snappers players. For the season, the 19-year-old righty is 2-5 with a 4.48 ERA with 62 strikeouts and 15 walks in 60.1 innings.
