MILWAUKEE -- Jimmy Nelson expects more from himself.
Nelson pitched into the seventh inning, Scooter Gennett had a career-high four hits and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 on Saturday night.
"It was a little more of a grind today than some of those games where it seems three-up, three-down," said Nelson, who had a no-decision but is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA in his last five starts. "You're going to go through those games and you're not going to be locked in every game. You'd like to be, but in reality you're not going to be."
Gennett had four singles in four at-bats, drove in two runs and scored the tiebreaking run on Jean Segura's hit in the seventh.
Milwaukee improved to 6-0 against Philadelphia this year -- its most wins over the Phillies in any season.
Nelson struck out six and gave up two runs and five hits in 6 2-3 innings. Will Smith (6-2) got the final out of the seventh.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched the ninth for his 33rd consecutive save, including all 28 this year.
"(Nelson) kind of battled himself all night a little bit, but it's still a good sign that he throws 6 2/3 innings and gives up two runs," Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. "You felt like at times he made some great pitches, but I think for a lot of the night, it wasn't as crisp as maybe his last start."
Philadelphia's Justin De Fratus (0-2) allowed a run and two hits while getting just two outs in the seventh.
Starter Jerome Williams gave up two runs -- one earned -- and five hits in six innings, leaving with the game tied 2-all.
Gennett's single in the ninth scored Jonathan Lucroy for a 4-2 lead.
In the seventh, Gennett led off with a bunt single down the third base line. He took second on a wild pitch and scored on a single to center by Segura for a 3-2 lead.
Philadelphia held a 2-0 lead when Milwaukee scored twice in the fifth with help from two Phillies errors.
A single by Gennett bounced off the glove of left fielder Cody Asche that let Khris Davis easily score from second. A single by Elian Herrera and an overthrow by right fielder Jeff Francoeur trying to get Segura at third ended up in the camera pit and allowed him to score.
"The ball that was hit to Asche, it looked like it was on one of those slip-and-slides," Philadelphia interim manager Pete Mackanin said. "It just scooted and it kind of moved to the right. Still an error, but it kind of surprised him. And the throw to third base, Cesar (Hernandez) almost caught the ball. The runner got in there. He still probably should have caught the ball, but it was one of those plays and somebody's got to take an error for it."
STREAKING UTLEY
Utley is hitting .500 (13 for 26) with four runs, five doubles, a homer and five RBI in seven games since returning from the DL with right ankle inflammation.
YOU'RE OUT OF HERE
Counsell was ejected in the seventh for arguing after a replay was overturned. Umpire Fieldin Culbreth initially called Utley out on a pickoff play at second base. But the Phillies requested a review and after, 1 minute, 59 seconds, Utley was ruled safe. Counsell went out for an explanation and was ejected by Culbreth, the crew chief.
TRAINER'S ROOM
Segura's head hit the left knee of Cesar Hernandez as he slid into third in the fifth. After a brief visit from the trainer, Segura remained in the game.

Phillies: Aaron Harang (5-13) allowed eight earned runs and 14 hits in five innings in a 9-5 loss to Milwaukee on July 1.
