On the eve of Wisconsin's regular-season opener, freshman forward Aaron Moesch announced he would redshirt this season.

The 6-foot-8 Moesch came to Wisconsin from Green Bay Southwest, where he averaged 18.4 points and 12.1 rebounds and was an honorable mention WBCA Division 1 all-state pick.

"I think in the long run, redshirting this season will really benefit me and hopefully the team," Moesch said in a statement. "As a freshman, this season is full of adjustments and spending the year on scout team will give me the chance watch, learn and help my teammates day in and day out."

"Instead, my job now is to get the veteran guards ready for every game and work as hard as I can in practice to prepare them."

Moesch is the second player to redshirt this season as sophomore guard Zak Showalter previously announced his decision to do so. Wisconsin also could see freshmen Jordan Hill and Riley Dearring follow suit and redshirt, but no decision on either of the guards has been announced.
