The Arizona State softball team scored four runs in the first inning and held on to beat No. 11 Washington 5-4 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

The sweep was the fourth of the season for the third-ranked Sun Devils, their most in the Clint Myers era.

ASU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with the help of RBI hits from Annie Lockwood, Haley Steele and Amber Freeman. Lockwood, who went 2 for 3 in the game, is now sixth all-time at ASU in RBIs with 164, 17th in doubles with 22 and 20th in hits with 170.

Washington answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs, both driven in by Kylee Lahners, to cut ASU’s lead to 3-2.

Katelyn Boyd helped the ASU offense stay hot with a double to left-center in the second that drove in Bailey Wigness, extending the lead to 4-2. Boyd had two doubles on the day, giving her 52 in her career, just two shy of the school record held by Kaitlin Cochran.

A Bethany Kemp infield single in the fifth helped the Arizona State cause, making the score 5-2 when Haley Steele scored from second on the play.

Washington got on the board again in the sixth, when Shawna Wright homered to left-center to make it 5-3. The Huskies added one more run in the bottom the seventh via a Wright single, but it was not enough.

Dallas Escobedo picked up the win to improve to 16-4 this year. Kaitlin Inglesby (18-9) suffered the loss after throwing one inning.
