LOS ANGELES -- Despite a late comeback, the University of Arizona women's basketball team lost 70-60 at No. 11 UCLA on Saturday at Pauley Pavilion.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 13-7 overall and 4-5 in Pac-10 play, while the Bruins improved to 18-2 overall and 8-1 in the Pac-10.
"We got manhandled at the boards today, and that really hurt us," Arizona coach Niya Butts said. "I was pretty happy with the way we played offensively. They had 28 second-chance points, and we just can't give up opportunities like that. We need to get back the progress we made rebounding earlier in the season and regroup for our next three games at home."
The Bruins dominated on the boards 48-24.
Senior forward Ify Ibekwe was Arizona's leading scorer with 18 points. Sophomore Davellyn Whyte scored 14 and junior guard Shanita Arnold had 10. Senior forward Soana Lucet led at the glass with eight boards.
Arizona made a late comeback and cut UCLA's lead to just seven points with three minutes left, but the Cats could get no closer down the stretch.
For the game, Arizona shot 43.4 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from behind the 3-point arc and 61.5 percent from the free-throw line.
The Wildcats started strong in the first half, going 5 for 6 from the field and leading the Bruins 12-6 early on. Rebounding was a problem from the start, though, as Arizona grabbed just eight boards in the first 20 minutes of play.
UCLA's Jasmine Dixon led all scorers with 22 points. Darxia Morris and Atonye Nyingifa also chipped in with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Nyingifa paced UCLA on the glass with 12 rebounds.
