Angels don't have 'extra concern' over Aybar second hamstring injury
Erick Aybar has a left hamstring injury for the second time this season.
Aybar left Friday's Angels game in the sixth inning after tweaking his left hamstring while running out a bunt.
It's the same hamstring that caused him to miss time for the Angels earlier this season. He first injured his left hamstring on May 28.
"It loosened up a little after the game, so we'll see how it is (Saturday)," Scioscia said.
Aybar was 1-for-2 before he left Saturday's game, which the Angels lost 3-1 to the Mariners. It's conceivable Aybar could be back in the lineup Saturday, or the Angels could start Taylor Featherston. On Friday, Taylor Featherston was the Angels' starting second baseman, and he moved to shortstop when Aybar left the game.
It's not known if it's the exact same area of the hamstring or if this is an extension of the first injury, but Scioscia said it's "probably a similar type of tightness."
Scioscia took him out of the game more as a precautionary measure.
"There's a lot of baseball left. He's too important of a guy to lose," Scioscia said.
Aybar's speed is ultra important to the Angels. That speed was on display in the fourth inning when Aybar tried to stretch a double into a triple and was out at third with an awkward slide. He was out on the sacrifice bunt at third in the fourth inning.
Scioscia didn't seem too worried that this was the same that Aybar injured almost one month ago.
"It's just a little tightness," Scioscia said. "I don't think there's any extra concern. We just want to make sure we stay on top of it."
