One: The Blue Jackets special teams got "special" again. Over the previous two games, their PK had coughed up six goals on nine opposition power plays. In the desert, they were perfect on the penalty kill. They maximized their power play by converting their two PP opportunities into two goals.
Two: Curtis McElhinney turned it around after some not-so-good performances in preserving a 34-save shutout, keeping Phoenix off the score sheet for the first time this season. He may very well relinquish the net to Sergei Bobrovsky in the next day or so, but he helped Columbus to an 8-5-1 record since the beginning of December.
Three: Nathan Horton made a splash in his debut for the Blue Jackets. He scored the game-winning goal on the power play, his first for Columbus, which also puts him one goal shy of 200 for his career. He was camped in front of the Phoenix net on the PP. Big body, soft hands. He shoots, he scores. The wait was worth it, eh?
