Flyers return trio of former first-round picks to junior clubs
Defenseman Ivan Provorov will not be starting the upcoming season with the Philadelphia Flyers.
The seventh overall selection of the 2015 draft, Provorov was one of three former first-round picks to be cut by the Flyers on Wednesday. The 18-year-old Russian, who notched an assist in Tuesday's 5-3 preseason victory over the New York Rangers, was sent back to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League.
Travis Konecny, who was the 24th overall pick of the 2015 draft, was returned to the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League. The 18-year-old, who serves as the captain of the junior team, scored a goal in Monday's 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders.
Selected with the 17th overall pick of the 2014 draft, defenseman Travis Sanheim was returned to the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
