Flyers' Gagner admits suffering concussion

Philadelphia Flyers forward Sam Gagner admitted to reporters on Monday that he suffered his first concussion in the NHL last month.

Gagner received a laceration near his left eye following a hard check by Carolina Hurricanes forward Brad Malone during a 3-2 overtime victory on Nov. 23. The 26-year-old Ontario native sat out the team's next six contests before telling reporters of the concussion following Monday's practice.

Gagner had been placed on injured reserve to open a roster spot for veteran defenseman Andrew MacDonald, who was recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League on Monday.

Gagner has failed to make an impact after being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes in June, collecting just two goals and three assists in 18 games this season.

The sixth overall pick of the 2007 draft, Gagner scored 118 goals and set up 223 others in 580 career contests with the Edmonton Oilers, Coyotes and Flyers.
