Flyers' frustrated Gagner: 'I want to be a part of things'

Sam Gagner doesn't want to play the waiting game. He'd rather compete in a real one.

Acquired from the Arizona Coyotes shortly after the 2015 draft, the Philadelphia Flyers forward has been a healthy scratch in the season's first two games - both losses.

"I want to be a part of things," the 26-year-old Gagner told the Courier Post. "I definitely feel like I can help, so it's frustrating. I want to be out there helping my team. To not be able to, it's not fun, but hopefully (Monday) and hopefully I get a chance to do that."

Monday serves as Philadelphia's home opener against the Florida Panthers, a team that blasted the Flyers to the tune of a 7-1 rout just two days earlier.

Gagner indeed may see his first action of the season versus the Panthers as fellow forward R.J. Umberger missed Sunday's practice with a "maintenance day". Gagner skated alongside Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn in practice.

The sixth overall pick of the 2007 draft, Gagner played in parts of seven seasons with the struggling Edmonton Oilers before enjoying a strong campaign with Arizona in 2014-15.

Gagner collected 15 goals and 26 assists in 81 games last season for the Coyotes. The Ontario native scored 116 goals and set up 220 others in 562 career contests with Edmonton and Arizona.
